Adaptive Bike Fitting Day in Fruita

March 30, 2015 – The Family Health West Pediatric Therapy Team is pleased to announce April 18 as “Adaptive Bike Trial and Fitting Day,” with the help of Colorado Discover Ability, Numotion, Grand Mesa Medical, and Mesa County School District 51. The event will take place at Victory Life Church located at 2066 Hwy 6 & 50, near Fruita, from 10:00am – 3:00pm in the church’s parking lot.

Led by Anouk Kincaid, Physical Therapist, who has extensive experience with adaptive sports seating, and Missy Combs, Pediatric Occupational Therapist, the event is designed to serve school age kids (ages 3-21) that are unable to ride a standard bicycle due to their disability.

Pediatric Therapists, equipment suppliers and selected volunteers will be present to advise on adjustments to the cycles and assess what adaptations the individual might need.  Participants will be provided a written record of the recommendations so they can take the information back to their own therapy teams.

“Information will be available for participants seeking to purchase their own equipment along with potential resources that can help purchase adaptive sports equipment,” said Family Health West Therapy Director, Nick Saller.

“We are excited about this very important event,” said Anouk, “In our practice we have had the opportunity to help some clients acquire adaptive sports equipment but it is hard to get access to a variety of equipment in one place. We are hoping that by organizing this event we can serve a larger number of our local population and give them the ability to trial a variety of cycles and maybe find the right one that meets their needs and matches their disability.”
