Family Health West Concert Scheduled for The Avalon Theatre

New FHW Foundation presents fundraising event.

(February 24, 2016) – Family Health West CEO Mark Francis announced today that the nonprofit healthcare organization will once again hold its signature fundraising event at the Avalon Theatre, featuring a concert by legendary early Rock & Roll group, The Drifters. Titled “Rockin’ Elegance,” the event is presented by the new Family Health West Foundation, recently established to raise funds to ensure the future of Family Health West’s services. Major sponsors are The Family Health West Physicians, FCI Constructors Inc., and Alpine Bank.

According to Family Health West Foundation Director Stacey Mascarenas, the goal of the foundation this year is to ensure that the elder community has access to quality care for years to come. “We are in desperate need of upgrades that will make our residents’ time with us, along with their families, that much more meaningful and pleasant,” said Mascarenas. “We’re thrilled to present the ‘Rockin’ Elegance’ concert as the introductory fundraising event for the foundation.”

Scheduled for Saturday, April 30, the event will feature the usual silent and live auction, as well as gourmet appetizers and cash bar. Then, rather than the usual dancing to a live band, The Drifters will entertain guests with a sit-down concert. According to Family Health West Vice President of Business Development Angelina Salazar, the concert format was a proven success with last year’s “Country Elegance” fundraising concert, also held at the Avalon Theatre.

The Drifters will headline Family Health West's "Rockin' Elegance" concert on April 30, 2016 at the Avalon Theatre in downtown Grand Junction. The annual event, hosted by the new Family Health West Foundation, ensures that the elder community has access to quality care for years to come. Headlined as “This Magic Moment,” the black-tie event will open with social time and silent auction at 5:00 p.m., followed by a live auction, The Drifters, and an exclusive roof-top concert by The Williams Brothers Band to cap off the evening. Ticket prices range from $100 - $150 and reservations are required for both the Main Event and the Exclusive Event. Visit fhw.org for more details.

“Last year we made the decision to transform the long-standing, traditional gala format of The Red Baron Ball to a fresh new type of event, and it was a huge success,” said Salazar. “We’ve created a different dynamic in fundraisers and we’re excited to move forward with this new format.”

The Rockin’ Elegance event will also include an exclusive, after-concert dance on the Avalon roof top featuring The Williams Brothers Band.

Proceeds of the event will benefit Phase II of the renovation of Family Health West’s Courtyard Care Center nursing home. The only hospital-based nursing home in the Grand Valley, Family Health West has received national recognition for award-winning quality nursing home care, and for decades has been known for innovative Alzheimer’s care.

Ed Forsman of FCI Constructors, Inc., one of the title sponsors of the event, supports the creation of the Foundation and the mission of Family Health West and the fundraiser. “FCI believes that Family Health West is a very crucial part of the Fruita area and they provide critical services to the surrounding community and it’s residents,” said Forsman.

Formed in 1953, The Drifters are a long-lasting R&B, doo-wop and soul vocal group that is regarded as one of early Rock & Roll’s super groups. They charted several mega-hits like “Under the Boardwalk,” “On Broadway,” “Stand By Me,” and “Up On The Roof.” Rolling Stone Magazine ranks The Drifters in their 100 greatest artists of all time and they have been inducted into both the Rock and Roll and The Vocal Group Halls of Fame. Their music has transcended through the decades with new members routinely keeping the original essence of the melodies alive.
