Local therapists featured at international conference

Experts in adaptive therapies present to continuing education symposium

March 17, 2015- Anouk Kincaid, a physical therapist with Family Health West and Chad Kincaid, a physical therapist with the Grand Junction VA Health Care System, recently spoke at the International Seating Symposium (ISS), hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. The ISS is the leading educational and scientific conference in the field of wheelchair seating & mobility related technologies. Over 1,800 professionals in the field of rehabilitation from around the world attended February 26th – 28th.

Titled “Water, Wheels and Winter: Seating Solutions for Paddling, Cycling and Skiing,” the Kincaids’ presentation provided attendees with hands-on learning about the options available for supporting adaptive sports and recreation for people with disabilities.

“Having the ability to teach others my knowledge is remarkable because I often forget that, though the information is just what I do every day, it’s new to most everyone else,” said Anouk. “My passion is helping the disabled gain or regain an active life.”

Anouk Kincaid graduated from the physical therapy program at the Hogeschool Heerlen in the Netherlands, and has been board certified in the United States since 1994. She has 20 years of experience in treating pediatric and neurologically impaired clients. Her pediatric expertise at Family Health West includes treating patients with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, development delays, torticollis, spina bifada and others. She is certified in the Ride Designs custom seating systems and specializes in wheelchair seating evaluations.

Chad Kincaid is a Physical Therapist graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1995 and a Certified Prosthetist from California State University in 2005. He has practiced at the Grand Junction VA Health Care System for the last seven years with an emphasis on wheelchair seating, adaptive sports seating and prosthetic limb care and management.

Two Family Health West RNs Nominated for Nightingale Award
