Healthcare provider shifts from Red Baron Ball to Avalon concert
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (February 19, 2015)–Family Health West CEO Mark Francis announced today that the non-profit healthcare organization is changing its signature fund raising event this year. The Red Baron Ball, a popular and long-standing gala is giving way to a concert event at the Avalon Theatre, featuring up-and-coming country artist/songwriter Logan Mize.
“As a comprehensive provider of healthcare services Family Health West is rapidly growing and evolving,” said Francis. “Although our mission hasn’t changed since the 1940’s, the scope of services we now provide certainly has. We’re no longer just that little hospital or nursing home out in Fruita. In the last year our brand has significantly changed and we think the time is right to transform our main fundraiser into a fresh new type of event.”
Family Health West’s first Red Baron Ball was held in a hangar at the Grand Junction Regional Airport in 1989. Known for its impressive auction items and unique décor, the event had grown to become one of the community’s premier events, selling out each year.
“After 25 years, however, we felt that the Red Baron Ball had run its course,” said marketing director Angelina Salazar. “With all the new things happening at Family Health West and the new renovations complete at the Avalon, we felt it was an ideal time to create a different dynamic in fundraisers, one that is decidedly different than all the other galas.”
Scheduled for April 25th, the event, titled “Country Elegance” will feature the usual silent and live auction fundraisers, gourmet appetizers and cash bar. The difference will be the main event. Rather than the usual dancing to a live band, Country Elegance will offer a sit-down concert featuring country artist Logan Mize. According to Salazar, Mize is one of country music’s hottest rising new stars. “We were lucky to be able to book him this year,” she said. “A year from now I predict he’ll be way out of our price range. This is a great opportunity for people to see an entertainer who will soon be playing on the national stage.”
The Country Elegance event will also feature an exclusive roof-top dance after the concert during which a limited number of guests can enjoy an unplugged performance and meet Mize and his band.
Proceeds of the event will benefit Phase I of the reconstruction of Family Health West’s nursing home, newly named Courtyard Care Center. The only hospital-based nursing home in the Grand Valley, Family Health West has received national recognition for award-winning quality nursing home care and for decades has been known for innovation in Alzheimer’s patient care. In February, 2015 the organization changed the name of the nursing home to Courtyard Care Center to better position the facility for future expansion.
Phase I reconstruction will include 10 new private, spacious and beautifully decorated skilled nursing rooms with close parking right off the new courtyard. This will kick off the complete renovation of the entire 30+ year old nursing home facility which will include all private rooms and bathrooms, new entry, cafeteria, kitchen, activities area, therapy gym and more.
Country music artist/songwriter Logan Mize has opened for multiple headlining acts including Lady Antebellum, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, The Charlie Daniels Band, Blake Shelton and Hank Williams. He has played a special tribute with Merle Haggard and accompanied Leann Rimes on her 2013 UK tour. Country Music Singer Bucky Covington recorded Logan’s song “Mexicoma” on his album Good Guys, which charted to Number 30 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums. Logan’s TV features include the “Fabric of Life” cotton commercial alongside Hayden Panettiere and the CW series “Hart of Dixie,” which featured both Logan and his band. His current hit song, “Can’t Get Away from a Good Time,” can now be heard on radio stations nationwide.
Described as a “Black Tie Event (cowboy hats & boots optional),” Country Elegance will open with social time and silent auction at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th at the Avalon Theatre, downtown Grand Junction. Ticket prices range from $100 – $150. For more information, visit our Country Elegance page. To purchase tickets, call Lorraine Archuleta at 970-858-2108.
