Meet Carolina Carvelli, Nurse Practitioner

She considers herself new to the Family Health West team of nurse practitioners, but joining the FHW Urgent Care clinic from its first days open has been a parallel experience underscoring all things new for Carolina Carvelli. She was an ICU nurse during the year of COVID and quickly realized she wanted to do more community nursing rather than critical care nursing.

Carolina Carvelli sits in a patient screening room at FHW Urgent Care Clinic.

She grew up in Basalt, with a younger brother and hard-working parents, although no one worked in the medical field. She described the sort of accidental circumstances that took her interest in science and high standardized test scores and led her down a path into nursing school. She then leans into a memory of translating some healthcare appointments for her father as a child. (English is her father’s second language.)

Today, Carolina holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish along with her Registered Nursing and Nurse Practitioner degrees. Her culture and education allow her to fluently communicate with Spanish speakers during their healthcare appointments.

“I enjoy speaking Spanish when I have a patient,” whose first language is Spanish, she said. “Without a language barrier in medicine, it makes everything easier.”

Carolina enjoys getting to know her patients and building trust with them. She thrives on what she calls community nursing and gets to do that as a provider in the FHW Urgent Care clinic. She credits her FHW Urgent Care clinic co-workers for treating her like family. Together we flourish!
