Meet Nikos Hollis, Nurse Practitioner

It was a career that had flexibility and allowed him to travel the world, from Grand Junction to Denver to New Zealand and then back to his hometown. Working in critical care in the emergency department, he was able to see a wide variety of medical issues and really appreciate the value of emergency care, Nikos Hollis, FHW Nurse Practitioner, said.

However, he also began to see the power and potential of preventing the need for emergency care in the first place. This led Nikos to become a nurse practitioner and work in primary care for several years before joining us here at FHW. He has been with the FHW Rehabilitation Medicine clinic for 3-1/2 years now, and he says, “I like seeing patients who are not in crisis, and being able to keep them as healthy as possible and in their own homes. I really enjoy building rapport and supporting people in better health, less pain, and higher function.”

Nikos helped open the first Long COVID clinic between Denver and Salt Lake City over 2 years ago and helped publish a paper about this experience earlier this year. He continues to successfully treat patients with long COVID, and would encourage anyone who had COVID and has not fully recovered to come in and see what we can do for them.

For his patients in the FHW Rehabilitation Medicine clinic, he loves “helping people with chronic pain improve their quality of life. People need to know that there is a lot we can do for pain outside of narcotics.” He would love to see anyone dealing with pain and disability and help them take better control of themselves and their lives.
